Valve are revelling in yet another fantastic sale weekend with Left 4 Dead proving to be a big hit. During Dice his key note address, Gabe Newell, Vice President for Valve confirmed that last weekend saw sales for the Zombie survivor shooter go up by almost 3000%. Gamers were left foaming at the mouth and were tearing each other limb from limb to get a piece of the action with it coming in at 50% off the original sale price.The big sale beats it's original launch figures as well. Newell went onto mention that success was not limited to Left 4 Dead only. Steam also saw a rise in new customers by 1600%. Sales of Team Fortress 2 went up 106% following a free update to the game. Retail wasn't left out in this case, with sales jumping 28%. The massive Steam holiday sale was also a big win for Valve and its partners. The following holiday sales data was released, showing the sales breakdown organized by price reduction:
Steam is fast becoming the de facto game delivery platform of choice for PC Gamers and developers alike. Even better news is that the new DLC for Left 4 Dead on PC and Xbox 360 will be absolutley free of charge.
- 10% sale = 35% increase in sales (real dollars, not units shipped)
- 25% sale = 245% increase in sales
- 50% sale = 320% increase in sales
- 75% sale = 1470% increase in sales
